Putting your Love of Quilting to a Good Use

A few days ago I mentioned that this year I will be serving as Chairperson for Community Service for our Quilt Guild.  Today my wonderful sister, Nancy, and I met the lady who was in this capacity last year.  She has graciously offered to work with us this year, especially in the capacity of CASA for Children quilt coordinator.  I have included the Mission Statement and the pledge that volunteers all over the country commit to as they work with these children.  These people, in my book, are angels here on earth, for their never ending efforts to spare these children further abuse and neglect.  Our Guild contributed nearly 60 quilts for the children on the CASA rolls in our county in 2012, and this was just one of our many community service projects.  The guild has also contributed numerous quilts to local nursing homes, neonatal unit of area hospital, as well as contributing blocks for "Home of the Brave".  We will continue serving these charities with plans to add even more.

National CASA - Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children - CASA for Children

Mission Statement:   The mission of the National Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Association, together with its state and local members, is to support and promote court-appointed volunteer advocacy so that every abused or neglected child can be safe, establish permanence and have the opportunity to thrive.

Five Critical Pledges We’ve Made on Behalf of Abused and Neglected Children

We will work tirelessly until these five pledges are met:

  • Every court in the United States recognizes that a CASA/GAL volunteer is essential for a successful outcome for children
  • Our volunteer base reflects the diversity and cultural makeup of children in the system
  • Every potential donor understands the importance of our mission, and places it at the top of their priority list
  • Every government official at the local, state, tribal and federal level understands the far-reaching results a CASA/GAL volunteer can achieve, and places our work at the top of their agenda
  • Every child can thrive in the safe embrace of a loving family
I pray that each one of you quilters out there will make a pledge to yourself that this year you will contribute at least one quilt to a charitable cause.  I can PROMISE you that the reward you receive for this contribution will come back to you to many times over!
